CONSPIRACY

:
THIS KIND OF STUFF HAS GOT TO STOP IN OUR COUNTRY .
We Must Stop This Immediately!

Have you noticed that Stairs are getting steeper.  Groceries are heavier.
And, everything is farther away..  Yesterday I walked to the corner and I
was dumbfounded to discover how long our street had become!

And, you know, people are less considerate now, especially the young ones.
They speak in whispers all the time!  If you ask them to speak up they just
keep repeating themselves, endlessly mouthing the same silent message until
they're red in the face!  What do they think I am, a lip reader?

I also think they are much younger than I was at the same age.  On the other
hand, people my own age are so much older than I am.  I ran into an old
friend the other day and she has aged so much that she didn't even recognize
me.

I got to thinking about the poor dear while I was combing my hair this
morning, and in doing so, I glanced at my own refection.........Well,
REALLY NOW-even mirrors are not made the way they used to be!

Another thing, everyone drives so fast these days!  You're risking life and
limb if you happen to pull onto the freeway in front of them.. All I can say
is, their brakes must wear out awfully fast, the way I see them screech and
swerve in my rear view mirror.

Clothing manufacturers are less civilized these days.  Why else would they
suddenly start labeling a size 10 or 12 dress as 18 or 20?  Do they think no
one notices that these things no longer fit around the waist, hips, thighs, a nd bosom?

The people who make bathroom scales are pulling the same prank, but in
reverse.  Do they think I actually "believe" the number I see on that dial?
HA!  I would never let myself weigh that much!  Just who do these people
think they're fooling?

I'd like to call up someone in authority to report what's going on -- but
the telephone company is in on the conspiracy too: they've printed the phone
books in such small type that no one could ever find a number in here!

All I can do is pass along this warning: We are under attack! Unless
something drastic happens, pretty soon everyone will have to suffer these
awful indignities.

PLEASE PASS THIS ON TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW AS SOON AS POSSIBLE SO WE CAN
GET THIS CONSPIRACY STOPPED!

PS: I am sending this to you in a larger font size, because something has
caused my computer's fonts to be smaller than they once were.

JUDGE RESENTENCES SEX OFFENDER TO AT LEAST 3 YEARS

Judge resentences sex offender to at least 3 years

CASHMAN

CASHMAN

BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) – Judge Edward Cashman got what he wanted – a child molester will receive treatment in prison. But he never could have expected the price he’d have to pay for it.

Cashman resentenced Mark Hulett on Thursday to at least three years in prison – up from the 60-day term that had outraged Gov. James Douglas, Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly and a host of other politicians and commentators who called the judge soft on child predators and demanded his resignation.

Amid the uproar over the initial sentence, the state changed the rules that kept offenders like Hulett from receiving treatment behind bars. Doing so earlier might have saved the judge from invective stretching from the Legislature to the blogosphere.

“Had the Department of Corrections offered a treatment option during the three-year period of imprisonment it sought at the first sentencing hearing, the court would have accepted that recommendation,” Cashman said Thursday.

Thursday’s resentencing quieted some – but not all – of the criticism leveled at the judge since Jan. 4, when he imposed the 60-day sentence.

“It’s 18 times 60 days, so it’s certainly an improvement,” the Republican governor said. “Personally I think it’s inadequate for a crime of that magnitude.”

Attorney General William Sorrell, a Democrat, said he too wished for more than three years but he praised the judge for making the change.

“I would have rather seen it be a longer sentence as a message to other would-be-offenders, but I think Judge Cashman is big enough to change course,” said Sorrell.

Mark Kaplan, Hulett’s lawyer, called the new sentence fair. “I think it makes sense under the circumstances,” he said.

Unclear, though, was whether legislative Republicans would drop their demand that Cashman resign.

On his Fox News television program Thursday night, O’Reilly said the sentence “is still far too lenient.”

FAMILY OF HOMELESS MAN CALL SLAYING RACIALLY MOTIVATED.

NACCP, family of homeless man call slaying racially motivated

Posted January 28 2006

The NAACP and the family of Norris Gaynor, a homeless man beaten to death earlier this month, believe the attack was racially motivated and said Friday the case should be treated as a hate crime.

Gaynor, 45, was the second of three homeless men to be attacked before dawn Jan. 12. The baseball bat attacks seriously injured Jacques Pierre, 58, and Raymond Perez, 49, who recently left the hospital.

& nbsp; Marsha Ellison, president of the Fort Lauderdale branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, noted while the majority of homeless people in Fort Lauderdale are white, "the three victims sought out were people of color. I don't buy coincidence in this crime of hate."

Police have arrested three suspects in the beatings: Brian Hooks, 18, and Thomas Daugherty, 17, both of Plantation, and William Ammons, 18, of Fort Lauderdale. All three are white.

The group also wants Daugherty to be charged as an adult, pointing to recent cases in which young black defendants have been charged as adults. Lionel Tate was 12 when he charged in the killing of 6-year-old playmate in 1999. In November, Camille Alicia Burke, 17, of Miramar, was charged as an adult for shooting a peer on a school bus.

The Gaynor family, who live outside Pensacola, called the local NAACP about his death and have hired Fort Lauderdale attorney Gregory Durden to represent them.

One of the beatings captured by a surveillance camera led to the arrests of the three teenagers on suspicion of aggravated battery and murder charges.

No formal charges have been filed. All three suspects remain in custody.

"The NAACP and everyone else can be assured that we will prosecute this case as diligently and as vigorously as we prosecuted the Lionel Tate case and every other serious case of this nature," said Broward State Attorney's Office spokesman Ron Ishoy.

Additional Thoughts Two Days Later

A creature of habit, my work days almost all start the same way. I park my car in the garage, say hello to the friendly attendants, and make my way down the street toward the offices of National Right to Life at a quasi-breakneck speed.

For the first 200 feet there is nothing but the usual din of cars whisking by. Then, on the 201st foot I turn the corner. Instantly, what I had heard not even a whisper of becomes now loud and clear: the voices of men and women in a picket line outside a local department store.

I mention this because it took me a while to figure out what this symbolized for me.

They were not any the less vocal when I was around the corner. There weren't any more or less of them before I turned right. Their sounds and their presence had been obstructed by the buildings. The moment I turned from G Street onto 11th Avenue that barrier was removed. The sounds were now easy to pick up, even though the people were still more than a block away.

This hidden in plain sight phenomenon is the situation, I suspect, for many, many Americas, with respect both to the abortion issue and to the drive to legalize "assisted" suicide.

The debate--or more specifically the significance of the moral and ethical questions raised--is largely obscured, not by a series of massive and tall buildings, but by the normal busyness of life and the understandable reluctance to get involved with "controversial" issues.

However, sometimes we experience the equivalent of my turning the corner. We "hear" what was inaudible before when a daughter or a niece becomes pregnant, or someone we know is not receiving food and fluids, or someone has grown so despondent they seek "help" in taking their own life.

Other times the change may be stimulated by a Supreme Court decision. It is worth recalling that for most Americans, Roe v. Wade did not rank as important as the news that former President Lyndon Baines Johnson had died the same day of a heart attack. While people like you and I heard the whooshing sound of disaster immediately, had we not been reminding our neighbors, day in and day out, that news might have been muffled indefinitely.

There were two more Supreme Court cases decided this week, the significance of which will be muffled if you and I don't maneuver around all obstacles and clearly explain them to the wider public. On Tuesday we talked about the Court's conclusion that the federal government can't prevent federally controlled drugs from being used to "assist" suicides in Oregon. On Wednesday we discussed the Supreme Court's deceptively simple decisions involving New Hampshire parental notification law.

We will talk about them at length in the February issue of National Right to Life News. Today let me identify an additional point not addressed Wednesday about the parental notification decision.

Justice O'Connor's 10-page-long decision in Ayotte v. Planned Parenthood of Northern New England must be read very carefully. One pivotal issue in New Hampshire's parental notification measure is the issue of "health" exceptions and how that relates to a "medical emergency."

The issue of "medical emergencies" is much, much more complex than a quick glance at the Court's decision or most newspaper accounts would indicate. This is made clear in a very illuminating amicus curiae ("friend of the court") brief submitted to the justices in Ayotte.

"In imposing a constitutional standard for parental notice statutes that mandates a broadly interpreted 'health' exception the Circuit Court of Appeals has relied precipitously upon the testimony of one physician-Plaintiff in the case. The Court's Amici [meaning the authors of this brief] seek to bring to the Court's attention supplemental medical authority that suggests that none of the acute medical complications of pregnancy cited by the Court of Appeals for Respondents and their amici necessarily mandates immediate termination of pregnancy by abortion as the accepted standard of practice. Moreover, Respondents' assertion that abortion is a relatively 'safe' medical procedure relies upon maternal mortality data that is unintended for that purpose and unsuitable to it."

The brief astutely observes,

"All of the potentially catastrophic medical conditions cited by opponents would also mandate care in an advanced medical facilityâ€&brv bar;Such care would, of necessity go beyond the immediate abortion procedure and would likely involved complex decision-making. Prudent medical care and planning would therefore consistently involve parental involvement and consultation, if not outright consent. Encouraging parental knowledge and involvement at the earliest opportunity would serve to protect the adolescent in difficult circumstances, particularly when the adolescent cannot advocate for herself."

In other words, in such situations an immediate abortion is NOT in the pregnant teenager's medical best interests, and her parents' involvement is more important than ever! This is knowledge that needs to get much wider distribution.

Just a reminder--next Monday is the annual March for Life, held here in Washington, D.C. Similar rallies are taking place all over this great nation of ours. On Monday I'll write a bit about what happened in the nation's capitol and include President Bush's remarks to the marchers.

A WOMAN OF FAITH

01.25.06 (12:33 am)   [edit]
"A WOMAN OF FAITH"..by Jessica Hopkins

Planned Parenthood is pushing for emergency contraception in all South Dakota hospitals and legislators could take up the controversial issue this week.

Emergency Contraceptive, or "EC," is also known as the "Morning After Pill" and was released in 1999 as the "Plan B" kit.

It includes two pills with high doses of hormones, similar to birth control pills, which are taken within 72 hours after unprotected sex to prevent a pregnancy.Legislation called "EC in the ER" is something Planned Parenthood hopes will become a tool for women who are victims of sexual assault.

Kate Looby from Planned Parenthood says,"When a woman is a victim of a horrible crime, or sexual assault and presents at an emergency room, or hospital, that she would be told of the existence of a medication that can prevent a pregnancy resulting from the rape."

If the bill passes, all hospitals in South Dakota would be required to tell rape victims about the availability of emergency contraception. But not everyone agrees with this legislation. Some say it comes down to the debate over when life begins.

One KELOLAND woman who was raped was forced to make a decision that would change her life forever.

Megan Barnett was 19 years old when she made a trip to Sioux Falls for the fourth of July weekend in 2004. But the weekend celebration didn't last. She was raped and the next morning went to the emergency room in Sioux Falls.

There, she was told about emergency contraception. "Plan-B," known as the morning after pill. While she's not comfortable talking about the details of what happened that night, she is willing to share her story of life.

Little nine month oldMaria is here today because her mother refused to take a pill that could've prevented her pregnancy from happening.

Megan Barnett says, "In not taking it, it just tipped my life upside down, but I'm really thankful that I didn't because she's such a blessing. I'm really thankful that I made the choice I did."

She says she decided not to take the morning after pill because of her beliefs... And she didn't want to question her decision forever.

Barnett says, "I don't want to be living my life thinking what if, what if. What if I had terminated that pregnancy."

While some argue emergency contraception has nothing to do with terminating a pregnancy, Barnett disagrees.

Barnett says, "I've always believed that life begins at conception and it doesn't really matter if you're raped, it doesn't really matter to me. That's the kinds of faith that I have."

It's that faith that gave her the courage to give this little girl life.

Barnett says, "A lot of life's experiences are extremely hard, but if you have friends and family and if you believe in yourself and believe in God, then you can do anything."

Barnett knows she can't keep EC in the ER from becoming a law...

Barnett says, "A lot of people say it's ok if you're raped, it's ok to have an abortion then, it's ok to take this pill."

But for her, taking a pill was not the answer.

Barnett says, "It's a life no matter how it got there and you need to be thankful for that gift of life."

While it might not work out this happily for everyone, Barnett is hoping her story can give other women courage and strength.

Barnett says, "It went from a horrible, horrific thing to something beautiful and I'm very thankful for it."

The court case against the man who raped Barnett is moving ahead. Doug Easterday, who KELO News interviewed for a different story in March of 2004, is scheduled to be sentenced on Friday.

WHY PASTORS FALL

01.24.06 (6:56 am)   [edit]
 "WHY PASTORS FALL"

  By Steve Gallagher
Over the past fifteen years, the Church in America has been rocked by numerous sexual scandals within the roles of its leadership. A great number of ministers have fallen prey to the temptress of sexual sin. Surely Solomon spoke the truth when he said, "For she hath cast down many wounded: yea, many strong men have been slain by her." (Proverbs 7:26 KJV)
In a misguided attempt to explain this on-going phenomena, there have been those who have used First Corinthians 10:12 (...let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.) to support their theory that it can happen to anybody. "After all, even David fell," goes their argument. The real culprit is the devil who brought such an overwhelming temptation that the poor minister couldn't help himself.
While it is true that the enemy is a master at setting believers up for temptation, just as true is the fact that God has empowered His people to overcome the allurements of sin. There are definite identifiable factors involved when a minister falls into illicit sexual activity.
Paul's Warning
To correctly interpret Paul's admonition to "take heed," it is important to see the context behind his statement. The entire tenth chapter of First Corinthians is taken up with the story of the Israelites living in the wilderness:
And do not be idolaters as some of them were; as it is written, "The people sat down to eat and drink, and stood up to play." Nor let us act immorally, as some of them did, and twenty-three thousand fell in one day. Nor let us try the Lord, as some of them did, and were destroyed by the serpents. Nor grumble, as some of them did, and were destroyed by the destroyer. (I Corinthians 10:7-10)
The overriding point of this chapter is to show the importance of living in obedience to God. The Jewish people had given themselves over to Egyptian idolatry. Their lives were characterized by carnality and worldliness. Because of their consistent refusal to repent, they were judged severely by the Lord. Having established the fact that they were leading ungodly lifestyles, Paul uttered his warning: "Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall." This is not a warning written to those who live godly lives but to those who have filled their lives with idolatry and immorality. While it is true that every human has a fallen nature and is prone to the enticements of sin, none need do so. Paul went on to say:
No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, that you may be able to endure it. (I Corinthians 10:13)
Paul's point is precisely the opposite of those who claim that anybody can fall at anytime. Although it is right to pray for, believe the best about, encourage and support those who have fallen into sexual sin, it is wrong to excuse their behavior under the premise that it can happen to anybody. People don't just "fall" into sin, as if they were walking along a path in the dark and suddenly-through no fault of their own-fall into a hole. There is a reason why it happens. People are vulnerable to temptation when their daily lives are not lined up with God's Word.
The Fall of David
The "Sweet Psalmist" of Israel was 50-years old when he committed adultery with Bathsheba. The sight of him leering at her from his rooftop, arranging for her to come to his chambers, seducing her and then having her husband killed must have been enough to make angels sit down and weep. What a blow it was to the Kingdom of God. How could it happen?
David had a unique hunger for the Lord from the time he was a boy tending sheep out in the wilderness. This was enhanced as he spent time with Samuel and deepened during his years of running for his life from Saul. Undoubtedly David was hitting his spiritual peak when he became king at the age of 30. Unfortunately, the power, prosperity and carnal indulgences such a position afforded him began to take their toll upon his walk with God.
By the time he had his affair, he had been king for 20 years. David had become so soft and pampered that he no longer even went out to battle with his men. He luxuriated in the palace while they laid siege to Ammon. David-who had once walked so closely with God-had gradually slipped away from the Lord in his heart. Years of indulging his flesh had left him spiritually weak. It was then that the devil presented the temptation. It is highly doubtful that David would have done such a thing when he was walking closely with God. We see the same thing in his life as was true of the Israelites in the wilderness: One's daily life sets the stage for either victory or defeat with the temptations that are sure to come our way.
It is true-if it could happen to David it could happen to anybody. However, the real issue was not so much what he did with Bathsheba and Uriah but what was going on in his heart prior to this. Those acts were simply the out-working of his inward life. Undoubtedly David maintained a pretence of devotion to Jehovah, but the reality was that he had long since slid away from that place of intimacy he had once enjoyed with Jehovah. In fact, he was so backslidden that he stayed in sin with Bathsheba for nine months before Nathan's confrontation jolted him into reality. Psalm 32, which he wrote after he came to his senses, describes his state of mind during that time.
The Dangers Pastors Face
The danger those in ministry face are not the sexual enticements one is assaulted by in the sexualized culture of America but the overwhelming pressure exerted upon them to slack off spiritually. In Galatians 5-that marvelous chapter that describes the battle between the Spirit-led life and the carnal life-Paul said, "Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh." (Galatians 5:16)  My testimony is that in all my years of ministering to Christian men who had fallen into sin-including many pastors-I have never found any evidence that would dispute the truth of that statement. To put it in its most basic terms: those who walk in the Spirit in their daily lives will find the strength available to withstand temptation when it presents itself; those who walk in the flesh will not.
Having said that, allow me to briefly touch on some common denominators I have often found in the lives of pastors who have fallen into sin.
The devotional life has not been properly maintained. A number of years ago, Sup. Otis Stanley asked me to speak at the S. New England District pastors' retreat on the subject, "Why Do Our Pastors Keep Falling Into Sin?" One of the things I said to those men was that, of all the fallen ministers I had dealt with over the years, I had never once had to minister to a "Mary," but I had dealt with many "Marthas." In other words, those who stay at the feet of Christ are not vulnerable to falling into sin. At Pure Life Ministries, every worker-whether he is counseling others or simply filling telephone orders-is required to spend at least two hours a day seeking God. If these laypeople can live that way, surely those who are representing the Lord to others should do so as well.

There is an over-busy life. This is difficult, because ministry can be very demanding. However, I have found that much of the activity of those who had fallen into sin was not generated by a sincere love for people as much as it was by selfish ambition or fear of man. The sincere minister will go to God and ask Him to reveal his motives. "Lord, am I involved in this activity because I truly want to help others or because I am trying to build a bigger church?" Or, "Lord, even if my motives are pure in this, is it your will?" Jesus scolded Martha by saying, "Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered about so many things; but only a few things are necessary, really only one, for Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her." (Luke 10:41-42) Corrie Ten Boom once said, "Beware of the barrenness of a busy life."

There is a habit of going to the world for comfort. Ministry can be incredibly draining. When a pastor has worked at a frantic pace all day (or all week) it can be very tempting to "veg-out" in front of a television set. Sports especially are a strong lure. TV affects the believer in many ways-all of them bad. I will mention only a couple here. First, television is the acting out of the deeds of the flesh (Galatians 5:19-21). As such, it relentlessly pounds its carnal message into the heart of the viewer. Second, it desensitizes the viewer to the evil nature of sin. Third, it deadens a believer's spiritual appetite. Fourth, it dulls a person's ears to hear God's voice. The pastor who regularly watches TV weakens his spiritual vitality and allows the enemy inroads into his innermost being.

The final factors-which I will just briefly mention-are of no fault to the pastor. Satan often capitalizes upon discouragement to lead a person into sin. When a believer gets down or gets hurt by others, he becomes more vulnerable to temptation. Being worn out by ministry is another thing that will weaken a leader's resolve to live a holy life. The ministry is both stressful and sedentary by nature. I don't believe these factors alone will take the believer out of God's protecting grace, but coupled with spiritual apathy, they can make him more vulnerable to temptation.
The things I have listed are not meant to be a comprehensive list. Rather, they are mentioned to support what was stated earlier: the way a believer lives his daily life will determine how vulnerable he is to the allurements of sin. A man who is living a consecrated life, walking humbly with God, and has his priorities in order very well may face temptations to fall into sin. However, in that temptation he will find the grace of God there to empower him "to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age." (Titus 2:12)

Unpleasant Experience

Unpleasant Experience

Had an unpleasant experience just a little while ago, just after lunchtime it was.
Heard a lot of shouting and tires squealing, like burnouts. Thinking it was the doggie next door had gone out to investigate and found it was nothing to do that.
A man in a blue car was shouting at a blonde haired very thin girl to get into the car, and she wouldn't get in.
Early I had heard a lot of noice behind the hibiscus tree which had hidden them from view and I had thought it was the dog next door had gotten out. But then really realized the couple would never spoken or shouted to their dog like this man was shouting at this girl.
Never come across this kind of thing before.
The girl was now hiding behind a blue car on the front verge of the corner house , right where the doggie lives and the gate was open which made me think it had got out.
He was calling her to get in the car, she wouldn't and moved back up the street in front of the Hibsicus tree again. He was so abusive and I said to her to get over the fence and inside the house which she did.
He hung around for a while shouting abusive language etc. Inside the house, we wanted to ring the police but she wanted none of that, apparently she said that some police accept bribes for information. The fellow she is living with is the one who is in the blue station wagon that was harressing her is the son of a Bikie also.
Anyway, with the man in the blue station wagon carrying on out front, Bob decided to ring the police and got through, and had given out our address when she just cut Bob off and wanted to leave. We tried to calm her down, calm her down?
We were the one's needing to be calmed down. I offered her a drink of water which she accepted. And she left not long after Bob suggested away for her to go from here.
After she left we heard no tires burning, no abusive language so hopefully she got to her destination alright.
In the meantime saw a Police Van drive up the road, told Bob about it. I came again drove into a friends driveway and back out again and came down straight past our letterbox.
In the end I rang them up and let them know what had happened, and the Police man on the phone said to me. If she didn't want their help then she is not worth helping. Not to sure of that attitude.
Thought I would put this here to help my nerves to settle down which I think it has done. Praise the Lord.
Thought I would add this here too, could think of a lot of things one could have done , like  a phone call to a friend, but it never came to mind.

`I WANT TO STOP BEING SO SCARED EVERY MOMENT'

When Tahel Maman, 4, comes home from kindergarten, she crawls under the kitchen table and stays there. When this behavior began last year, her mother, Ofra, thought it was a game. But after some cajoling, it turned out it was the girl's way of dealing with the security hardships that have blighted her short life—the Qassam rockets on Sderot, the sound of Israel Defense Forces shells fired at the Gaza Strip, the sonic booms from Israel Air Force planes.

The Maman family is not unusual. A recent examination of 120 families in Sderot with small children found that in more than half, the parents and/or the children, are suffering from post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Many of these families will shortly begin psychotherapy as part of a project employing methods that were developed in New York to treat traumatized 9/11 victims.

Tahel Maman jumps at any little noise—from the hum of a drill to a door slam. So does her 7-year-old brother. When the early -warning system Red Dawn sounds against an incoming Qassam, the children freeze on the spot. If it happens at night, their mother takes them into her bed. She herself hasn't slept well in more than four years, constantly fearful of another rocket.

Package

Working at the post office, I'm used to dealing with a
moody public.  So when one irate customer stormed
my desk, I responded in my calmest voice, "What's
the trouble?"
"I went out this morning," she began, "and when I
came home I found a card saying the mailman tried to
deliver a package but no one was home. My husband
was in all morning.  He never heard a thing!"
After apologizing, I got her parcel.
"Oh, good," she gushed. "We've been waiting for this
for ages."
"What is it?" I asked.
"My husband's new hearing aid."

Blonde View of Football

A guy took his blonde girl friend to her first football
game. They had great seats right behind their team's bench.
After the game, he asked her how she liked the experience.
"Oh, I really liked it," she replied," especially the cute
guys with all the big muscles; but I just couldn't
understand why they were killing each other over 25 cents."
Dumbfounded, her date asked, "What do you mean?"
"Well, I saw them flip a coin and one team got it and then
for the rest of the game, all they kept screaming
was: 'Get the quarterback! Get the quarterback!'
Helloooo? It's only 25 cents!"

While the world reads about politics and terrorist attacks, over 700,000
children in Israel are quietly struggling to grow up in crushing poverty!

Visit Ahavas Chesed to learn the facts about Israel's Poverty Crisis and how you can do something meaningful to help turn the tide:
Latest poverty report issued by National Insurance Institute reveals - "Over 1.5 million Israelis live below the poverty level."
Israel now leads the Western World in child poverty!
714,000 children in Israel lack the basic essentials we all take for granted... food, clothing, decent housing, medicine and all the rest.
Families are being evicted, elderly women rummage in garbage bins, work can't be found!
Benefits have been slashed for the poorest and most helpless in Israeli society...single parents, abused children, the disabled and the elderly.
Children growing up in such poverty develop a lack of self-esteem, behavioral and learning problems. Their future is at stake!
Ahavas Chesed brings direct financial assistance to some of the poorest families in Israel...discretely and privately. No one feels the shame of standing in public lines to receive food or goods. And, most important, the children never suffer the humiliation of being known to their friends as "charity cases".

Born 15th October. 1995 My sponsored child lives in the hills of Tikur Inchni Baptist Church, home to aproximately 3,300 residents. Typical houses are constructed of dirt floors, mud walls and thatch roofs. The primary ethnic group is Oromo and the most commonly spoken language is Afan Oromo. The regional diet consists of potatoes, Qocho root, wheat and barley. Common health problems in this area include tuberculosis, intestinal parasites, asthma and waterborne diseases. Most adults in Tikur Inchni Baptist Church work as labourers and earn the equivalent of $US6 per month. This community has water and electricity but needs schools.

THE WAY CHILDREN SEE THINGS:

The Way Children See Things

NUDITY

I was driving with my three young children one warm summer evening when a Woman in the convertible ahead of us stood up and waved. She was stark naked! As I was reeling from the shock, I heard my 5-year-old shout from the back seat, "Mom! That lady isn't wearing a seat belt!

HONESTY

My son Zachary, 4, came screaming out of the bathroom to tell me he'd dropped his toothbrush in the toilet. So I fished it out and threw it in the garbage. Zachary stood there thinking for a moment, then ran to my bathroom and came out with my toothbrush. He held it up and said with a charming little smile, "We better throw this one out too then, 'cause it fell in the toilet a few days ago.

OPINIONS

On the first day of school, a first-grader handed his teacher a Note from his mother. The note read, "The opinions expressed by this child are not necessarily those of his parents."

KETCHUP

A woman was trying hard to get the ketchup to come out of the jar. During her struggle the phone rang so she asked her 4-year-old daughter to answer the phone. "It's the minister, Mommy," the child said to her mother. Then she added, "Mommy can't come to the phone to talk to you right now. She's hitting the bottle."

MORE NUDITY

A little boy got lost at the YMCA and found himself in the women's locker room. When he was spotted, the room burst into shrieks, with ladies grabbing towels and running for cover. The little boy watched in amazement and then asked, "What's the matter haven't you ever seen a little boy before?"

ELDERLY

While working for an organization that delivers lunches to elderly shut-ins, I used to take my 4-year-old daughter on my afternoon rounds. The various appliances of old age, particularly the canes, walkers and wheelchairs, unfailingly intrigued her. One day I found her staring at a pair of false teeth soaking in a glass. As I braced myself for the inevitable barrage of questions, she merely turned and whispered, "The tooth fairy will never believe this!"

DRESS-UP

A little girl was watching her parents dress for a party. When she saw her dad donning his tuxedo, she warned, "Daddy, you shouldn't wear that suit." "And why not, darling?" "You know that it always gives you a headache the next morning."

DEATH

While walking along the sidewalk in front of his church, our minister heard the intoning of a prayer that nearly made his collar wilt. Apparently, his 5-year-old son and his playmates had found a dead robin. Feeling that proper burial should be performed, they had secured a small box and cotton batting, then dug a hole and made ready for the disposal of the deceased. The minister's son was chosen to say the appropriate prayers and with sonorous dignity intoned his version of what he thought his Father always said: "Glory be unto the Faaaather, and unto the Sonnn ... and into the hole he gooooes."

SCHOOL

A little girl had just finished her first week of school. "I'm just wasting my time," she said to her mother. "I can't read, I can't write and they won't let me talk!"

BIBLE

A little boy opened the big family bible. He was fascinated as he fingered through the old pages. Suddenly, something fell out of the Bible. He picked up the object and looked at it. What he saw was an old leaf that had been pressed in between the pages. "Mama, look what I found", the boy called out." What have you got there, dear?" With astonishment in the young boy's voice, he answered, "I think it's Adam's underwear
